+ make a wish;; January first
+ counting candles;; twenty-one, senior
+ beauty or beast;; female
+ shot through the heart;; straight as an arrow
+ hit the books;; double major: creative writing & literature, minor: theater

+ mane and tail;; Dark brown hair uncomplicated by streaks or highlights, falls just past her shoulders in a monotonous wave, gleaming with light reflected off of anything in the room. Straight or wavy, Nikki's hair is often the first thing one notices about her appearance, its bright and lovely bounce drawing all eyes to herself whether she likes it or not.
+ windows to the soul;; Nikki's eyes are large and green-brown. They aren't endearing emerald orbs, and they can't suck you in, or pierce through your soul, and you certainly can't get lost in them. She has greenish eyes. Get over it.
+ your epidermis is showing;; caucasian
+ this is why i'm hot;; Big and brown and adorable, Nikki’s eyes have been the basis of several compliments throughout her life. These beautiful round optics are of a common chocolate brown hue, and could easily be deemed unremarkable were it not for their uncannily enviable ability to both capture and reflect the light of a room, always sparkling with a gentle confidence.
As her eyes, Nikki’s hair is of a dark brown shade, gleaming in such a manner that demonstrates the care that has obviously been taken to keep it healthy and voluminous as it bounces past her shoulders with a playful enthusiasm equal to that of her personality. Were it not for this undeniably unique quality, this mane of straight brown hair might, as well, be called unexceptional.
The word average doesn’t do her justice. Looking only at a description of her features, not having actually seen her, that word would most likely be the word one would use to describe her. She has dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, a little short for her age, and of a weight well-proportionate to her size. There is nothing out of the ordinary there- no amazingly coloured hair or captivating eye colour, so she must be completely boring in appearance. However, to see her through your own two eyes is only beginning to fully understand how truly beautiful she really is. There is something outstanding hidden beneath her luminous chestnut hair and dark chocolate eyes, waiting in the glamour of her faultless white-toothed smile for something miraculous to come along and uncover her radiance. There is something outstanding in there, waiting for a reason to actually stand out.
Nikki is the sort of girl that you have to look twice at to truly appreciate her subtle loveliness- you could easily skip over her when glancing through a crowd, trying to pick out those of beauty worth noting. She is hard to spot in a crowd if you aren’t looking closely, with her brown hair and common build, but once you really get a look at her, you realize how gorgeous she is, even though she doesn’t have blonde hair and blue eyes and clearly isn’t the stereotypical definition of attractiveness- but there’s definitely something there. Perhaps not magnificence, but prettiness, indeed.

- Kelly Allison
McMillanRedmond Mother
Born and raised in Flax, Kelly has always been the stereotypical young and hip mother, and Nikki has always been able to talk to her. They are really close, and Nikki thinks of her more as a friend than a mom, because they have such a good relationship. She has never been embarassed or ashamed with her mom; besides the fact that her friends have always loved Kelly, she's just way too close to her mother to be embarassed. Kelly is thirty-four years old, and is the manager of a restaurant in town. She originally applied as a chef, and got the job, but ended up in a management position very soon after being hired.- Michael Christopher Redmond
FatherGlorified Sperm Donor Who Visits The House From Time to Time
Quite the opposite of her relationship with her mother, Nikki has never really been very fond of Michael. There's no particular reason for her disliking of him, no traumatic event in her past that turned her against him, not even any troubles between he and Kelly; she just doesn't like him that much. She loves him, because he's family, but she tends to feel awkward around him, as opposed to with her mother, with whom she is extremely comfortable. She also doesn't see him very often, because the thirty-six year-old financial services consultant is out of the country for a total of nine months every year, making up the other half of the dual-income household. He was born in Sydney, Australia, and met Kelly on one of his business trips.

+ full of surprises;; She tends to be both physical and verbal with her emotions. Running up to somebody, screaming as she tackles them, would not be an extremely surprising action for Nikki to do when she is in a particularly good mood. Another mark of her anger is when she begins to show extremely supercilious tendencies towards anyone who annoys her, determined to intimidate them with her intelligence until they leave her alone. This is also something that Nikki uses as a joke, being haughty towards her friends in such an obviously sarcastic manner that it is impossible to mistake for when she is actually being stuck-up. She is much more unique and varied on the inside than she is on the outside, that much is for sure.
Nikki might be considered stuck-up by some people, solely for the reason that she really couldn’t be bothered to argue with somebody who she thinks is an idiot. Some perceive this as her believing herself to be above the pettiness of teenage life, and to a certain extent, it’s true, but not as much as people often think. She is intelligent, opinionated, and completely unaffected by any problem you might have with her. She plays by her own rules (it’s not her fault that yours aren’t as good), so most people consider her to be egotistical.
Nikki is also well-known for her flippancy towards her superiors. It isn’t that she completely disregards rules and order, in fact, these are things that she supports quite happily; her problem is that she refuses to be wrong. She defies her professors if they tell her to do something she believes is wrong, pointless, or otherwise unnecessary, and when she is having a disagreement with anyone, her sharp tongue does not willingly stay silently inside her mouth.
She is not, however, an angry person, as long as she doesn’t have a decent reason to be. She is generally quite pleasant towards those with whom she is comfortable, and on whom she holds no grudge. Of course, she is quite swift to judge someone- not necessarily on sight, but she is not very fond of second chances. The first impression is her only impression, and she will not hesitate to pass judgement on anyone based on the first time she meets them. Another thing that people find easy to recognize Nikki for is her ability to be completely and brutally honest, and her expectation to receive the same from you.
An extroverted go-getter, she is shy about very few things. There isn't much she won't admit to, and you'll never see her turn down a logical challenge. She's broad-minded and never shy to try anything new. She likes being in charge and is a natural leader, very punctual and dramatic in how she handles things. She also lets her emotions get the best of her in many situations, thinking from her heart instead of her head, which gets her in trouble in many occasions. Her anger is something dangerous to be faced with, but when content she is one of the greatest people to have around. She's wise beyond her years but will occasionally succumb to the will of a younger teenager inside her soul; the sixteen-year-old hormones have to have their way sometimes, right?
Whether it's a big bad brawl, a bet gone sour, or a question of who fronts the bill, somehow, some way, Nikki will get her way. She's what you'd call charming, and she's used to making her point clear. It isn't impossible to impress her, but just listening to her you'd never know it. Hell hath no fury like Nikki when she's got something over your head, though. She's got swank and style, and she's not afraid to show off, but there's an underlying modesty that'll show through when she means it. She knows she isn't the best piece out there, and doesn't mind stepping down when the tables are turned by someone who deserves it.
Interestingly enough, Nikki has an almost sweet-natured but grudging way of taking care of people. Sometimes, she will seem unkind or just plain unapproachable, but she seldom disrespects someone who doesn't act like they should be. Nikki chooses alcohol over drama and heartache; she's all for a party if even one more person is game.
Although feisty (she sometimes blurts out what's on her mind and very often it turns out to be less than pleasant), Nikki doesn't have as much of a temper as one might expect. There's a time and a place, she likes to think, and if getting hot and bothered about something isn't worth her time, then that's that. Injustice, needless stupidity, and hostility really send her flying though--so be prepared for an earful!
Never one to be tied down, Nikki is definitely a free spirit. She does whatever she wants, however she wants, whenever she wants and absolutely hates being ordered around. She's clever, stubborn and aggressive, but she's not always impossible to deal with and she can be willing to grant favors to people she likes. Most of the time she's friendly enough, but it can be easy to annoy her.
When she is happy, she is bubbly almost to the point of being a cheerleader, but her intelligence makes that option unavailable to her. Her optimism often clouds her judgement, meaning that sometimes she gives her trust to someone who really shouldn't be trusted. When she is truly angry she makes sure everyone else in the room knows. She's a shameless flirt, often leading her to forget her duties and messing up priorities when somebody good-looking walks by.
Nikki is extremelypessimisticrealistic when it comes to anything in her life. If she's upset, she won't tell you that she's fine. If she hates you, she won't grin and bear it, she'll flip out at you. Some people consider her cynical because when she is not particularly angry, but rather in a generally bad mood, she will answer everything with a sarcastic, rude or depressing comment, refuisng to take any part in any happiness that others might be experiencing.

it's history «//
+ epic worthy;; Michael Redmond and Kelly McMillan had a fairy-tale relationship. They spontaneously met while Michael was on a business trip in Flax, where Kelly had lived for her entire life. The flustered, overworked restaurant manager and the strong, professional businessman, fell in love almost instantly, and it was right out of a really bad, plotless chick flick. So they got married, bought a house, he completely relocated his business to be with her, and they loved each other very much and lived happily ever after. The end.
Okay, so I guess it isn't really the end. Somewhere in the middle of it all, they had kids. Identical twins, in fact; Nicole and Samantha Redmond. Right now, Nikki is an only child, but it wasn't always like that. For a fraction of a second, she had a sister. She doesn't remember Sam at all, and she isn't really affected by her death; you can't really blame her, she wasn't even a week old when her twin died. She didn't know her at all. But Kelly was torn up about it. They say that there is no pain worse for a parent than to lose a child, so maybe that's why the woman had always been so protective of her surviving daughter. Even though she doesn't remember her sister very much, she can't help but feel a little bit guilty about her death. To say that she blames herself would be a bit of a stretch, but she doesn't really think it's fair for her to have lived, and not her sister. Sometimes she thinks about what it would be like to have a twin, but at the risk of being a horrible person, she isn't really emotionally scarred because of Samantha's death.
After all, it isn't her fault she was the lucky one. Some people might decide that it was their fault that their twin was dead and they were alive, and be traumatized because of that and want to kill themselves so that it would be fair. Pssht. Not Nikki. She finds people who might do something like that overly dramatic idiots straight out of crappy soap operas. Besides, how in the hell would that be fair to Kelly? She had already lost one daughter, she didn't need to lose another one. And Michael, even though he seemed cold and emotionless at times, he too, would be unsurprisingly upset at the death of another child. Some drama queens just don't think about that, perhaps.
Nikki was a very early bloomer. She was born premature, and started walking and talking at just six months. Her parents would say that she was anxious to get her life started, and nothing could ever hold her back, and she was in no way shy about her feelings. If she wanted something, the world would know. If she was angry, the neighbours would hear the screaming. Her emotions were never any secret, and that was never a problem, because there were normally no problems with her emotions or behaviour, as a general rule.
She was a very happy baby, until someone tried to give her a pacifier. She absolutely loathed and despised the things, and they seemed to be the only things in the world that she wouldn't take. She ate all her vegetables, and she slept when she was supposed to- but she threw a huge fit if someone tried to give her a soother. Looking back on the memories, she concluded that they were really counter-productive things- for her, anyways, because they really did not soothe her at all, but rather made her even more unmanageable than she would have been before they shoved the thing into her mouth and tried to force her to suck on it.
Nikki came into everything early- even puberty. At ten years old, she started to get acne, and dry skin, and plenty of other appearance-related issues. She became very unhappy with the way she looked. She'd always be jealous of the other girls in her class, with their perfect skin and perfect teeth and perfect hair and perfect eyesight. Nikki would sit there for hours, her eyeglass rim-clad nose buried in her notebooks, her dark brown hair, faded from the overuse of wash-out dyes, which, despite the desperate application of product, and succumbing to various hair-related superstitions, refused to grow any longer than the awkward, split-ended length of just above her shoulders, sprawled around her dandruff-infected head, an unattractive smile of satisfaction playing on metal-clad teeth as her pencil would scrape against the paper.
Of course, at thirteen, when everyone was going into their awkward stage, Nikki was just coming out of hers. She started wearing contact lenses, her hair got its vivid colour back, her skin cleared up and humidified, her braces came off to reveal straightened teeth, and she was regarded as a beauty among her imperfect companions. What she wouldn't give to be thirteen again. Now, everyone had soft and blemish-free skin, and long hair, and actual shapes, and she didn't stand out anymore. She missed being somebody that someone might pick out from a crowd of similar faces. Still, it was better now than it had been when she was ten. Perhaps it's still better to blend in than to stand out as something hideous.
Growing up, Nikki's mother was always her best friend. She was always there for her when she was upset, or if she ever needed anything. You could say that she was spoiled by her mom, but that wouldn't exactly be the truth. True, she got most of the things that she wanted from Kelly, but she was frequently reminded by her father that life costed money, and her mother wasn't always going to be there to hand everything to her on a silver platter. Always such a pessimist.
She was about twelve years old when she realized that she was angry. She was angry at her friends for being idiots, and at her classmates for hating her. She was angry at herself for deserving to be hated, and she was angry at her parents for pretending there was absolutely nothing wrong with her. She was angry at her father for never being there, and her mother for not realizing when she did and did not need to be there. She had a sort of epiphany, realizing that it wasn't helping anybody to pretend that other people weren't stupid (if she was smart enough to skip a grade, why couldn't everyone else keep up?), or to pretend that she liked somebody, or pretend that she didn't think she was better than them.
She used to keep her sarcastic comments and mean thoughts to herself, because she was afraid that they might hurt somebody, but at that time, it dawned on her that she was just being honest. But when the snarky remarks and rude comments that she used to say only on occasion, and apologize for, started to become more and more frequent, people got worried. They thought that there was something horrible in her life that was making her depressed or overly angry. But there wasn't. She had just stopped caring if what she said hurt anybody else's feelings. She wasn't doing anybody any favours by lying to them about her feelings, so she stopped lying. They'd thank her in the long run.
When she was fourteen, a good friend of hers was diagnosed with leukemia, and died the following year. For the first time in her life, Nicole Redmond could not be satisfied by crying on the shoulder of her mother. She tried doing pot once, but it didn't help her at all; she only hated herself for doing it afterwards. What helped her through that tough time in her life was alcohol; her mother had been an alcoholic before she met Michael, and now little Nikki was following in her footsteps. She started going to the parties of older students, where there was plenty of beer and liquor to keep her safe from the pain that she wishes so desperately not to feel.
Nikki was seventeen when she graduated from Mammoth Academy in Flax, Pennsylvania, and was accepted to NYU with an impressive full-ride scholarship offer. If there was anybody who didn't need the money to go there, it was Nikki, but still they offered it to her because of her academic achievement.
